Julia Mustonen, started to play the piano at the age of three under the guidance of her mother, Lidia Mustonen. She studied in the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, receiving her “Akademischer Grad Diplom-Pianist” in the Hochschule der Kunste in Berlin. She continued her postgraduate studies in the “Performance Artist” program at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin under Prof. John O’Conor, in the “Spanish Music” program at the Granados-Marshall Academy in Barcelona with Alicia De Larrocha, and since 2005 in the “Advanced Master” Soloist Diploma program at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm with Staffan Scheja.
Ms. Mustonen won First Prize at the Nordic Blüthner Piano Competition at the Malmö Academy of Music in 2004 and was one of the top 4 semifinalists in the 2006 Monte Carlo World Piano Masters competition. She made her Gotland Chamber Music Festival Debut in 2007, her Stockholm Debut Recital in 2008 and her debut with the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performing the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 1 in 2009. From 2006-2007 she performed the complete works of Claude Debussy in Finland, Sweden and Denmark and will play an American tour in 2009.
