Narine Ojakhyan, soprano, was awarded a Raffy Manoukyan scholarship in 2005 to attend the Royal Academy of Music. There she successfully completed a one year postgraduate diploma in performance and subsequently joined the Royal Academy Opera program from 2006-2008, studying with Joy Mammen and Jonathan Papp. While in the Academy, Narine won the Opera Rara Patric Schmid Bel Canto Prize and the Ludmilla Andrew Russian song prize. In July, 2008, she participated in the Solti Academy di Bel Canto in Italy and received master classes from renowned opera singers Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Federica Von Stade. In 2008 she participated in the Metropolitan National Council Auditions and was a Western Regional Finalist where she received a special encouragement prize. While at the Royal Academy Opera, she sang Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, conducted by Sir Colin Davis and directed by John Copley, Nella in Gianni Schicchi, Lusya in Paradise Moskow, and Brigitta in Iolanta. She also sang the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera Della Luna and Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Armenia Opera Studio. Future plans include a Samling master class week in England with Sir Thomas Allen, the Europera 2008 vocal competition and the Licia Albaneze-Puccini Foundation competition in New York.
