Rebecca Sjöwall, soprano, made her operatic debut with West Bay Opera as Micaëla in Carmen in 2008. “Standing alone at center stage, she lit up the proceedings with glowing, sweet tone and a radiant persona, which rightfully reaped some of the longest applause of the evening.” (San Francisco Classical Voice) Upcoming engagements include her debut with San Francisco Lyric Opera as Gilda in Rigoletto, soloist in Vaughan William’s Dona nobis pacem and Mozart’s Requiem and a recital hosted by the Swedish Embassy in Riga, Latvia. Recent roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. She has appeared as soloist in Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah and Rutter’s Magnificat and has been a featured artist with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony and the Angeles Chorale. Her voice can also be heard on the award-winning video game BioShock. Ms. Sjöwall is a two-time District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Winner of the American Jenny Lind Competition and the Long Beach Mozart Festival, and Second Place Winner in the Palm Springs Vocal Competition. She took her first voice lesson while completing her B.A. in Political Science and received her M.M. from UCLA last June.
