Repertoire Voice

2010

  • A total of 15 pieces is to comprise the contestant’s repertoire list, with at least 5 languages represented.

  • The contestant must be prepared to perform all the pieces listed on their repertoire list. No piece may be repeated throughout the competition unless requested bythe judges.

  • If you were a competitor in a previous José Iturbi International Music Competition, you may repeat only 5 selections. The Porter and Gershwin songs, the Art songs in Spanish and the “Encore” piece must be new for the 2010 competition.

 

Contestant's Repertoire List is to include:

     
      5 opera arias

 

      2 Spanish art songs - may be composed by, but not limited to: Albeniz, De Falla, Granados, Guastavino, Montsalvatge,      Obradors, Rodrigo or Turina.

      

      2 art songs in a language other than Spanish

 

      1 Russian song by Rachmaninov, Gretchaninov, Tchaikovsky, Glinka, Shostakovich, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov or       Borodin

 

      Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, Ellen’s Dritter Gesang, verse 2

 

      1 song by George Gershwin of the contestant's choice.

      1 song by Cole Porter of the contestant's choice.

      1 song from the Broadway/Musical Theatre repertoire composed by Kern, Rodgers, Loewe, Lesser, Bernstein, Sondheim,       Tesori, Kander or Webber

 

      1 dynamic and exciting "Encore" piece of the contestant's choice.

PRELIMINARY ROUND – 24 singers

      1. 1 aria of the contestant's choice
      2. 1 aria of the judges' choice
      3. 1 art song in a language other than Spanish of the judges' choice

 

SEMI-FINAL ROUND – 12 singers

      1. 1 aria of the judges' choice
      2. 1 art song in a language other than Spanish (not sung in the Preliminary Round)

      3. 1 Art song in Spanish

      4.   Ave Maria by Franz Schubert Ellen’s Dritter Gesang, verse 2

      5.  1 song by George Gershwin or Cole Porter of the contestant’s choice

FINAL ROUND – 6 singers with Martin Katz, pianist

A program (contestant's choice of order) consisting of:

      1. 1 aria of the judges’ choice – to be selected after the Semi-Final round

           The judges may ask for an aria already sung in a previous round.
      2. 1 Art song in Spanish
      3. 1 song by George Gershwin or Cole Porter, not sung in the Semi-Final Round

      4. 1 Russian song chosen from the list of composers above
      5. 1 song from the Broadway/Musical Theatre repertoire from the list of composers above

      6. 1 dynamic and exciting “Encore” piece of the contestant’s choice
